Sunrise on New Years Day 2019
The year began at one of our favorite spots along the California coast, Pillar Point, also home to Mavericks surf break, one of the largest waves in the world.
Catching this calendar-delineating sunrise represented a symbolic commitment and determination to start the year off with energy, vision, a positive mindset, and forward momentum.
You can’t tell from the serenity of the photos, but for me this experience also held within it a kind of primal scream, one that I needed to shake loose residual frustrations from an extremely challenging previous year.
We opted to start fresh, moving past the groggy discomfort of waking up early and leaving a warm, cozy bed and driving an hour to the cold, dark coastline, in order to be rewarded with a crisp beautiful sunrise, a visceral connection to nature, and full, deep inhalations of the briny ocean air.
Perfect reset for what looks to be an awesome year ahead!
